Au Bon Pain
3,000 SF prototype implementation
Au Bon Pain began as an inline, street front café concept developed for urban and suburban environments. As the company grows, Au Bon Pain is being introduced into institutional settings, occasionally requiring a custom approach in terms of branding, layout and finishes.
PCA’s design for the Boston Children’s Hospital creates a new character with a variety of seating options — from banquette seating to café and community tables. This particular café was inspired by the hospital’s desire to create an environment that was fresh, vibrant and functional, while maintaining its appeal to children and adults, patients and hospital employees alike. The introduction of deep blues and purples highlights the Au Bon Pain brand yellow, creating a lively, friendly environment for working or socializing.
PCA continues to work with Au Bon Pain on prototype and custom design in institutional settings, recently completing construction of a café at Duke University, with additional new cafés planned for University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
