Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation / Back of the Hill Neighborhood Development Corporation
56,290 SF, 4-story residential building with 47 affordable units and community space
The new Hattie Kelton Apartments bring new life and vitality to the Mission Hill / Jamaica Plain neighborhood in Boston with the addition of 47 new apartments and community space. One hundred percent of the apartments will be affordable. Most are designed for families earning up to 60% of area median income with a portion of units set aside for formerly homeless and people with mental disabilities.
Designed to fit into the neighborhood, the building has porches, planted terraces, multiple entries, and a rhythm of cladding materials that complement the existing neighborhood architecture of three-family wood-frame houses, historic brick buildings, and single family homes.
The design received overwhelming support from community leaders and public officials at the Article 80 Large Project Review.
