Challenge

PCA’s interiors team was asked to develop a look and feel that would reflect the clean, fresh and healthy approach for a new café concept, specializing in custom-made smoothies, juices, salads, bowls and artisanal toasts. The owners wanted something that would make a splash and be “Instagrammable”, while also celebrating the healthy and fresh food.

Design Solution

Inspiration for the palette was drawn from the deep rich hues of the café’s namesake, acai, an antioxidant rich, super-food berry used to make bowls and smoothies. It’s deep purple color became the signature for Liv’s Juice Bar, nicely complemented with natural wood paneling, various greens from live vegetation and accents of banana yellow and bright turquoise, also pulled from the menu’s Blue Majik bowl.

Key design elements include a lattice-like suspended canopy of lush green plantings hanging over the dining counter and a pop-art style feature wall consisting of 300 glossy yellow acrylic banana silhouettes. An otherwise organic palette of natural pine paneling and woven rattan basket light fixtures, concrete and wood mini-pendants and leaf green chairs create a space that is vibrant and fresh, celebrating the menu.

Chalkboard menus allow for customization and easy modification as the menu seasonally evolves, and the counter front and blue wire-mesh barstools also pick up the deep tropical blue tones of Blue Majik. Existing concrete floors were revealed when existing carpet was pulled up, and polishing them provided a modern and natural backdrop to the rest of the café.
