The Mount Vernon Company
Architecture and interior design of 171,244 SF apartment building with 132 units (122,814 SF), 5,000 SF of retail, 4,000 roof deck and parking for 107 cars and 132 bikes.
This 5 and 6-story multifamily housing development creates a welcoming gateway into the City of Boston. The thoughtfully designed building façade, in combination with a fresh interior design approach, positions RADIUS as a catalyst for neighborhood development in the area.
Active lobby space including retail along Western Ave, a window-side work bar, art wall, workshop for bike repair or art projects, a pet spa and a multitude of lounge seating adds vibrant, 24/7 street level activity. On the roof, a club room and full entertainment kitchen opens up to outdoor space with grilling stations, fire pits, lounge groupings, outdoor TV, a game area, and bar. The club room faces an indoor/outdoor fireplace, opening out to additional outdoor seating under a retractable canvas awning. Along the Western Ave. side, a solarium provides a sunny view to the river during long winter months, with reading nooks and display shelves nestled in niches along the façade.
The building focuses on resident wellness, providing amenities that compliment an active lifestyle including a large fitness studio with views of the rooftop dog run and downtown Boston, and a mindfulness room with a starry-sky ceiling for meditation. Inspired by the building’s proximity to the Charles River, PCA’s interior design team used subtle references to nautical themes as the basis for design. The use of natural elements, wood millwork, and white paired with bright teal accents and other vibrant youthful colors and furnishings create an eclectic, fresh vibe.
